      Review: Blink Video Doorbell

Great features and value for money

I purchased the Blink Video Doorbell after switching from Ring Doorbell Pro to consolidate my security/video subscriptions. While the video quality is not as great as the Ring Doorbell Pro, it is still good with 1080p HD day and infrared night video. The motion sensing is slightly slower compared to the Ring camera, but overall, the Blink Video Doorbell offers many great features.

I really appreciate the convenience of configuring the doorbell chime with any Blink Mini camera, which is very handy. And for less than half the price of the Ring Doorbell, the Blink Video Doorbell gets the job done very well. It seamlessly integrates with Echo Show and I receive all the notifications that I used to get with Ring. Plus, it comes with a free 30-day Blink subscription, providing access to video storage on the cloud. Overall, I am very satisfied with this product.

Initial issues, but excellent customer service

Unfortunately, I received a faulty product initially, as the doorbell would not connect to wifi at all. However, the customer service was prompt and helpful. They were unable to troubleshoot remotely and sent me a new unit, which worked perfectly. I was able to connect to my wifi with ease and install it conveniently using the existing screws for my door knocker. I’m glad I didn’t opt for a refund and ended up really happy with the product.

      Problematic after a few months

The Blink Video Doorbell worked flawlessly for a few months but then went offline and entered “system event” mode. Despite following the setup instructions provided by customer support, I could not get it to work properly again. This was quite disappointing as it had been working well initially.

Decent product with good battery life

The affordable price initially attracted me to this product. It is well-made and easy to install. The app provided is decent and syncing it with other Blink devices works seamlessly. Although the battery life did not last the advertised 24 months, it still lasted a respectable 8 months. Overall, the Blink Video Doorbell is a great addition to the Blink system, which offers good quality.

Excellent customer service and ongoing support

After some challenges during installation and troubleshooting, I reached out to customer service again. They promptly responded and assisted me in setting up the in-house chime correctly. The representative was patient and kind, and after determining that the unit was defective, they are sending me a new one. I appreciate their support in resolving the issue. However, I find the app and support documentation difficult to navigate and understand, which hampers the overall user experience. Hopefully, I can figure everything out soon.

Easy integration with existing Blink setup

If you are an existing Blink Camera user considering adding the Blink Video Doorbell to your setup, I highly recommend it. As an existing Blink customer, you don’t need a second sync module. Simply add the doorbell to your existing account, just like adding an additional camera. Keep in mind that if you plan on hardwiring the doorbell to your existing doorbell’s wires, you still need to use 2 AA batteries to power the camera, which may seem counterintuitive. I was initially confused but learned this through helpful support from Blink. The hardwiring enables the doorbell to ring your existing doorbell.

      1. The media could not be loaded.

If you are like me you are a happy existing Blink Camera user who is thinking about adding the door bell to your existing setup. I had a blink camera setup aiming at my front door so at first I was not too sure that I really needed the door bell. However for the cost I am very glad I got one. There are a couple of things to know:

        (1) If you are an existing Blink customer, you do not need a second sync module. All you need is the door bell and you can simple add it to your existing account (as easy as adding an additional camera).

        (2) If you are planning on hardwiring the blink doorbell to your existing doorbells wires. . . . you still have to use 2 AA batteries to power the camera. This did not make sense to me as I figured my hardwires would power it, but sure enough after calling Blink support I realized I needed to put the AA batteries in the camera. The hard wire will allow your blink doorbell to ring the doorbell in your home but will not power the camera.

        (3) You can turn on motion detection or just have the blink door bell turn on when the door bell is rung. This is a nice feature. If you want to catch anyone that comes to your door (whether they ring the bell or not, you can simple turn this feature on in the app). If you want to save battery life and are only interested in door bell ringers you can turn motion detection off.

        (4) It has two way audio, meaning you will always hear the person at your door. . . . but you can also choose to speak to the person if you choose. For me the audio the person at the door hears comes across a little staticky, but that could be my phone or the fact that I am using the corner mount.

        (5) It has more of a fish bowl view so it catches a wide view (meaning it can cover most of your front porch)

        (6) There is no additional cost to having the Blink doorbell or camera system. Unlike other door bell systems out there, there is no additional cost to the Blink Doorbell. The app is free, cloud storage is free, downloading images or videos is free, etc.

If you are looking to set it up with just batteries and no wiring to an existing doorbell system, setup is a breeze (will take two minutes). If you are looking to hard wire it, it is still pretty easy. I am not a handy man and what I know about electricity will shock you (get my joke) but even I was able to hard wire it. Get the doorbell, you will be glad you did. Hope this review helped.

      2. The price was my original attractor to this product.
Well made and easy to install. The app is decent.
Works well as a doorbell connected with other Blink devices. Battery life was my concern, I knew the batteries wouldn’t last 24 months as stated. I got 8 months out of the original batteries. Great doorbell camera and the Blink system as a whole is good quality.

      3. I was sent a product that doesn’t work. The doorbell won’t connect to wifi at all. After many attempts I called CS and even they couldn’t troubleshoot. I’m being sent a new one but who knows if that one will work.

EDIT: I was shipped out a new one and this time it is working. It connected to my wifi with ease. I live in an apartment and was able to screw the back plate right into the screws that were there for my door knocker. Glad I didn’t just go for a refund. Very happy with the product.

      4. Customer service contacted me about my review and took appropriate action to resolve the issue. Thank you!

Worked very well for a few months and then I had a notification that the doorbell was offline. While it worked I could talk to people and i was immediately notified anytime there was motion in the front yard. Then it stopped working and went into “system event” mode. Could not get it to work right after that. I called customer support and they walked me through the set up again which did not resolve the issue.

      5. New update

Received new unit and installed. Called customer service and he walked us thru setting up our in house chime. This chime plays a series of notes and apparently considered as a digital NOT manually. All is well once we figured this out. Shoutout to our rep, you were patient and kind. Thanks

Update****. Customer service indicates unit was defective and are sending us a new one. Stayed tuned….

I find the app and support documentation very hard to use. Installation was just ok, indoor chime did not work as stated. Camera seems fine along with motion detector but still hard to set up as stated. Hope we figure things out soon or it all goes back

      6. I switched from Ring Doorbell pro to Blink to keep all my security/video subscriptions in one place as I have other blink cameras in the house. Bideo quality is not bad but I must says it is not as great as Ring Doorbell pro. I also feel the motion sensing is a little bit slower than the Ring camera. However a lot of other features are great. It allows to easily configure the doorbell chime with any of the Blink Mini cameras which is very convenient and for less than half the price of Ring, this does the job very well.
Seamless integration with Echo show and I get all the notifications I used to get with Ring, also comes with a free 30 days Blink subscription that gives access to video storage on the cloud.
        Overall very satisfied.
